As I've posted already it would be rude not to do this.

Please post your mindfulness stories here and your story might also feature on our blog (with your permission). You can also introduce yourself here. We want to create a library of mindful journeys and experiences.

Hi, my name isn't humph but given I work in IT and bang on about online security to all and sundry its as good as your going to get right now;)

How have I arrived at this site? Well I've been tangently interested in meditation through a variety of routes in the past, with a brief flirtation with Taoism through tai chi etc. Also in my past I did a lot of voluntary work within counselling settings (it would be too much of a reach to describe what I'd did as counselling). All of which makes it ironic that I came to mindfulness after realising that the stress in my life was no longer the fun ride it had once been. I work as a middle manager within IT which is pretty stressful and a year ago it all caught up with me, heart attack. Suddenly my curiosity around meditation became way more important as I needed to rebalance my life. Instead of the occasional reading and half hearted attempts to keep going to tai chi, yoga, yada yada yada I seriously wanted a non religious practical, non chanting, evidenced based method of dealing with me.

Hence reading mark williams and Danny Penmans book. I'm now actively practicing and also using head spaces app, which is interesting and giving me some food for thought but we will see. I've also become increasingly interested in the issues around stress at work. Potentially wondering if there is a career change in there for me as I increasingly find my values now different to those of the deal making, goal setting, ball breaking git faced anger management casualty that I was.

anyway, that's who I am....well it is today tomorrow I hope to discover a little bit more about myself...and then a bit more...hell I'm just a work in progress;) I'm here to raid your knowledge, occasionally seek your advice and when I feel the odd gem of an insite validate my view.

My wife says 'humph' all the time when something displeases her. Didn't it come from Winnie The Pooh originally? Anyway, good name.

This is some journey I tell you. I think the one overriding piece of advice I would give you now is this: keep meditating. Even on the days that you don't feel like it. Especially on the days that you don't feel like it. Mindfulness can sometimes be very hard, because life can sometimes be hard. But the skills it can give you to cope with these difficulties are unparalelled. I'm sure you will have many questions along the way, but we will always be here to help out as best we can.

Welcome aboard. Pleased to meet you.

Watch out, there's a Humph about (for those old enough to remember those ads for milk - come to think about it, why would anyone need to be reminded that milk is available from shops and can be poured over cornflakes?).
Anyway, welcome to the forum, Humph.
Cheers,

Welcome to the community Humph! :D
