Hi Folks,
I haven't been on this site in quite awhile, Gareth for one knows I have problems getting on as I don't have a computer and just too awkward off my smart phone. I used to sneakily go on in work when the bosses werent about but they have gotten stricter about internet usage so its not worth the hassle.
Today I find myself in the public library and taking the opportunity to give you all an update in whats beens happening in my life. Even though I have not been on here I often think about you all, Gareth, Fee, Jon, David, and hope that your are all doing good.
I had a fall about 3 weeks ago and broke my hip. I had a hip replacement done the following day. I stayed in hospital for 4 nights and on getting out, went to stay with my daughter as she lives in a bungalow and the thought of returning home and tackling the stairs was a bit daunting to say the least!
In the past 3 weeks I have pushed myself to walk a bit further every day and now I can get around without crutches (indoors) still need them for walking outside. I can do most chores. Only thing I can't handle is putting on my left sock, so my 6 year old grandson is more than happy to help me out each morning!
Its been a pleasure staying with them, previously I had not been able to see much of him, with working full time and it was probably only every other weekend, so this time has given me more time with family for which i am more than thankful.
At the beginning I found it very hard to concentrate and meditate. I tried to just "watch" the pain at times but it was too much so I was gentle on myself and let it go to another time. Also the medication made me soo sleepy and when I did try to meditate I was constanly falling asleep! Being in my daughters and having my very bositerous grandson around all the time, (summer holidays when it happened) found me with little time to myself to meditate, now, however hes back in school and i am finding a bit of time during the day.
In hospital I had the coincidence to meet up with one of my old school teachers who I hadnt seen since school years some 40 years ago, (makles me feel so old!) The poor lady had also broken her hip and she must be about 80 now, but not a complaint out of her. Made me think that there is always someone worse off than yourself, so I am trying to get on with it and am thank-ful that apart from the hip recovering I am fairly fit and hopeful to return to work in a few weeks time.

It's lovely to see you back, you've definitely been missed.
I urge you to maintain your every day practice. All the great meditation teachers stress the need for every day; I think it's important, especially at the beginning. Remember, mindfulness doesn't really ask anything of us, only that we show up.
If when you are meditating you are getting resistance or sleepiness, then just be aware of these feelings - explore them with curiosity. And if you fall to sleep, then so be it. Consider it a good nap that you needed.

It's lovely to hear from you though I'm sorry to hear of your recent injury. It does sound like you have been able to find mindful positives from the experience though which is lovely to read. Continue to take care of yourself
