It's okay to feel bad

Post here if you have been practising for a while, and you are starting to get your head around what this is all about. Also post here if you are a long-term practitioner with something to say about the practice.

"Suffering is part of life. It is no use running away from it. It will be waiting for you. instead, embrace it, lean into it. With practice, the pain may be eased if you separate it from the suffering. Is that right?"

Pain is inevitable , but suffering is optional.
Pain can be seen as 'primary '. Suffering as secondary.
It's down to our thoughts, our aversion or resistance to the pain.
By accepting the pain you can let go of the suffering, and so 'possibly ' ease the pain.
Meditating on the pain, with a lot of self compassion, lets us see just how much our thoughts add to our pain levels.
There's a good poem about acceptance and aversion, that we used in classes, called "The guest house".

This is a link to a piece I wrote several years ago on how I manage pain. It may or may not be of use. :)
