Where do I start

Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

Hello Cavebear and welcome to the community :)
Is there any particular questions you have and how have you come to mindfulness?
There are lots of discussions on the boards about specific questions and mindfulness journeys which I hope will provide a helpful starting point.
“Being mindful means that we take in the present moment as it is rather than as we would like it to be.”

I recommend picking up 'Finding Peace In a Frantic World' by Mark Williams & Danny Penman and/or getting yourself booked on the 8-week mindfulness course somewhere. This is not an overnight solution to your problems, but if you practise diligently with patience and a kindness to yourself, then this can be truly life changing I assure you.

You will have about a billion questions as you are working through this; stick around the forum, and we'll do our best to help you.

I would watch the youtube video of Jon Kabat-Zinn giving his talk at Google.

Here is the link: http://youtu.be/3nwwKbM_vJc

Great introduction to mindfulness for beginners (and everyone else too :D )

Hi writingmoment.
This book will guide you through the 8-week course.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mindfulness-pra ... k+williams
Best buy the paper (as opposed to ebook) version as it comes with a CD of guided meditations that are excellent.
Also, you'll find a support thread relating to the same course on this forum.
Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any queries.
All best wishes, Jon

My pleasure.
For me and others on this forum that book was the perfect place to start.
Do let us know how you get along with it.
Maybe leave some comments on the 8-Week Course thread here.
All good things, Jon
