meditating in the office!
Yesterday I was allocated the boring task of photocopying a pile of leaflets which then had to be made up into packs, something which did not require much attention, tedious but time consuming, something I really do not like doing plus I had to bend to sort the papers and my arthritis was playing me up a lot this week and I wasn't coping too well with the job and feelings of resentment and annoyance were present when a thought occurred to me, I could practice my mindfulness here, so I began to dbe aware of my breathing and it really worked and helped me and I finished the task feeling refreshed wow, this is something that I can put to work whilst at work, its great. Any other meditations tried it out at work?

Excellent work larrora. You are beginning to realise that you can meditate anywhere and at any time. Meditation is simply setting aside some time to regulate your attention and not engaging with thoughts when they arise. This versatility of meditation makes it really easy to fit into your day. Sitting meditation is great but often, I will meditate on a car journey or similar. Keep experimenting.

I constantly have to tell myself out loud to "get back to work" when I drift off. I have a home office, so there's no one here to look at me funny...except for the ghosts. But then, I look at them funny and say, "yeah? Well at least I'm not a ghost!"

I have recently coached several people who have had difficulty 'squeezing' meditation time into their daily schedules. What I suggested was to commute in silence. I have challenged each of them to turn off the radio, iPod, etc..., not use the phone unless a call is received, and just be aware of their thoughts. In every case, they each have had an OMG experience, finally finding a bit of silence they didn't know existed. In each case, I have tried in many ways to get them to create even a 5 minute space in their day and they have had difficulty with that discipline. This approach seems to have broken the ice for them.
The whole aim of this site really is that meditation can be done virtually anywhere and at virtually any time. You just need to do it and do it regularly. Any way that meditation can be de-mystified and brought to the average person is good in my book. That is my lifetime's work anyway. And happily, mindfulness helps to make that work beautiful and rewarding.

Yes, I have challenged myself and switched everything off when driving - although got a bit concerned that if I went into that 'space' I could end up having an accident. But the opposite was true. I was more aware of myself, of the road, of the people in the street, of each thing I was doing -as well as being aware of my head space. But I was not distracted. It was the opposite of that. Driving mindfully! Gives my head and soul a bit of the break from the constant chatter from ipods and radio...and probably makes sure people are safer from me on the roads!
I do this more and more now. And notice I feel so much better for it. In the office...well that's tougher. I have gone to the toilet and sat on the loo to do a 5 mins meditation but not a great environment. More helpful I have found is to do the same as others have said above...become more conscious of my breath. When doing a mundane task take that time out to do mindful breathing. When having a tea break, make the tea in the same fashion. When drinking the tea really taste it! and not be trying to email, telephone etc...at the same time.
The Key is Being Aware of the Moment, Of yourself in that moment - whether thoughts, feelings in the body or emotions. Blessings to you all
