Need to get back on track

Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

Hi everyone,

Since starting a daily mindfulness practice and joining this forum at the beginning of this year, a lot has changed. My father passed away suddenly in April and I had to fly back home and deal with both the emotional and logistical aspects of it. While I believe I was helped by having practiced mindfulness three months prior to it, being away kept me away from practicing and when I returned I stopped completely.

Fast-forward few months after - my wife was diagnosed with Meniere's disease, which gives you sudden vertigo and in most cases erodes your hearing over time. Being that I am a strong "O" in OCD, I immediately reverted back to my old vices - researching the disease and its progress online, worrying about it constantly, feeling anxious because of it, and in general, dooming and glooming about the future. At times, in my mind I can only conjure why we wouldn't be able to do something b/c of her condition rather than what we still could be doing - I realize this is foolish but its hard to shake off.

I am hoping to get back to practicing mindfulness - along with yoga, acupuncture, and prayer, I am hoping it will help me cope and be a source of strength, rather than anxiety, for my family. I know some of the folks here having chronic diseases and have found peace and solace in mindfulness. I am hoping to do the same.

Thanks - I started this off by hoping to ask a question but I think where we've end up is that this is now in public domain and I have no excuse to avoid or postpone doing this, :P
