Don't Think the Breath

Post here if you have been practising for a while, and you are starting to get your head around what this is all about. Also post here if you are a long-term practitioner with something to say about the practice.

"Don't think the breath, be aware of it."

I have to remind myself of this often during meditation. It's so easy and so "invisible" for thought to get in between the breath (or whatever the object of attention is) so that we end up with a sometimes very, very thin but very, very real layer-- of concepts--which separates us from what we're attending to.

Indeed - the ego is so crafty at being that unnecessary middle man who 'cashes in' between one's source and point of delivery. The two can be one and the same.
