Advice for a Newbie :)

Hi there,

I'm reasonably new to Mindfulness, I don't have a regular routine, I haven't meditated much at all. All I have done so far is on occasion managed to observe my thoughts and bring myself back to the 'Now' which so far has been very beneficial.

I have learned a lot reading and watching Eckhart Tolle and am trying to apply what I have learned to my daily life.

I would love some tips on how to incorporate meditation & mindfulness on a daily basis.

Thank you,

Laura :D

Hi Laura,

I wrote something on this very topic today; a post entitled: 5 ways to make meditation a natural part of your day even if you are super-busy and have a million things to do.

You can read it here: http://melbournemeditationcentre.com.au ... ngs-to-do/

Best advice is that you just make it in your schedule. Be that in the morning or in the evening.

There will be some people that will not agree to this but you could incorporate this in so many tasks that you do on autopilot. Like washing dishes or vacuum or when you commute. You don't even need to close your eyes.

Just ask what do I feel, why do I feel this way, what can I do about it?

Thank you Tody

I don't need to engage too much with the thoughts though do I? I'm trying to get away from over thinking and just 'Be'

"Just ask what do I feel, why do I feel this way, what can I do about it?"

This is a very ambiguous statement and needs clarifying, in my opinion.
Mindfulness is not about asking why we feel a certain way, it's bringing our attention to what is being felt and being with that.
The "what can I do about it?" is in the simple noticing.
Cheers,
Jon

Thank you for clarifying

Is it possible to do too little mindfulness for it to have any real benefit ? I'm starting quite slowly.

Hi Laura.
Nothing wrong with starting slowly, per se. Structure, in my opinion, is the important thing at the start because it is crucial to ground yourself in the practice.
A good teacher would be the best solution. Have you looked into that possibility?
Cheers,
Jon

Thank you Jon :)

Ok so I need to structure my mindfulness so it's regular.
I could look into doing an online course or something like that maybe, so I have guidance ! :)

Thank you for your advice :)

Hi again.
The long established 8-week course is designed so that participants get a solid grounding in the practice.
Here on the site we are currently working towards a situation whereby people such as yourself who might be interested in an online course are directed towards a tried and trusted teacher. We should have some news about that soon.
In the meantime, please feel free to ask any questions that arise.
All best wishes,
Jon
