A question on this: I understand that we shouldn't strive in our practice - that is not simply being. But when we DO things in the real world and try to bring mindfulness to them do we also let go of goal orientation, then?
Say I am cleaning the windows. I want them clean because I ma having house guests tomorrow. That is a goal. How should I relate to this goal as I go about performing the task?
Sorry Ged for derailing your thread a little; I felt that a new thread to ask this Q would be spamming the board a bit!

Personally I'd see the goal as future and let it go.
I'd stay present and mindfuly clean the windows.
Paying full attention to the present and cleaning should bring the clean windows without the striving for a goal and possibly make it more enjoyable.
This is a quote from Thich Nach Hahn ,it's a similar situation.
"Take my hand. We will walk. We will only walk. We will enjoy our walk without thinking of arriving anywhere.”
If you constantly chase one goal after another you're never at peace.
