Everyday Mindfulness

The novelist and cynic Tim Parks details his illness in the first half of this book. After various blind alleys he eventually discovers meditation in the second half.
On a retreat in Italy discovers the benefits of mindful meditation. Parks movingly and hilariously details his experience. A must read.

Sounds really interesting, I have added it to my Amazon wishlist.
I haven't meditated for over a week and need some inspiration to start again and this sounds like something I could really relate to.

Oh no Fiona! What has made you stop? I believe that mindfulness will ebb away as quickly as you attain it. Let us know if you begin to notice any differences, it will make a good case study I think.

I have already spoken to Gareth on twitter but thought I'd let the rest of the board know I am back on the waggon.

My 6 year old is having an operation tomorrow and my own health has been rubbish in the last week or two and the thing that helps most was the first to get forgotten about. I will write a post for Gareth about my experiences of stopping and starting soon.

I really enjoyed this book as it was written by someone who hates airey-fairy nonsense and is such a rationalist. So when he experiences the power of meditation it is all the more powerful. Its also a good intro to those long vippisanna type retreats and the pleasures and pitfalls.
He went on to write a novel about one of these courses from the viewpoint of someone who goes as a server. It doesn't sound all that entertaining, but it is and hes a good writer. It has 2 titles , one is The Server, and the other I think is Sex is not allowed'. I think the publisher got him to agree to the more catchy title. Trouble is, I thought they were 2 sepatate books and ended up with 2 copies of the same book!

I'm a rationalist too, might have to give the book a try (If I ever get the time).
