Re: Obsessive Tendencies
Hi Peanut, It sounds like your own instinct is that therapeutic support may be helpful - I'd encourage you to follow that up. A skilled therapist can guide you in the appropriate use of mindfulness and meditations. If you're in the UK, many GPs are now able to refer to MBCT courses at local hospital...

Re: Hello
Hi Moksha Having struggled with anxiety myself, I found that a mindfulness approach which emphasised self-compassion was particularly helpful. I've written about my own experiences in a couple of posts for this site. A book I found helpful is Jeffrey Brantley's Calming Your Anxious Mind. At the time...

Re: Some tips needed please
Hi James, Having been on this journey for about 7 years and got huge benefit from my practice, would it help for me to share that for many of those years I found formal practice wasn't always top of my 'enjoyable' list?. (And yes, I know all about the wagon!) But thankfully, you don't have to enjoy ...

Re: Mindfulness with Anxiety Feelings
You mentioned gentleness - the discovery of which was certainly transformational for me around difficult feelings that I'd rather not have. I'm so much of a gentleness convert that you can find plenty I've written about it here on Everyday Mindfulness. Wishing you kindness and gentleness in your con...

Re: Affirmations and Striving?
I'm not sure that affirmations as such are normally included in standard mindfulness practice. From my own experience of having tried them (before I discovered mindfulness), I found that telling myself 'I am' something which I don't really feel can lead to the opposite of what mindfulness is all abo...

Re: Affecting the breath without intending to
I struggled with this a lot when I first started. I had an idea that I was supposed to making my breath deeper and slower - and I'd end up getting very frustrated with what my breath was actually doing! When I began to 'allow' the breath to happen, and let it be just as it is in this moment - whethe...

Re: How to become less reactive using mindfulness
Hi rabbitgirl, Your question prompted some great answers, thanks for posting it! I think there's also a lot of value initially in just becoming more aware of our reactive habits, without judging ourselves when we fall into them. Most of us have built up reactive strategies which have served us in so...

Re: Online meditation partner/buddy sought
Hi there, I lead live guided meditations online so that people can practice 'together'. It's via the Mixlr site which is really easy to use. People often tweet me afterwards to share comments or reflections. The schedule can be found on my website if you like the sound of it - http://www.lollipopwel...

Just realised I didn't see the whole thread so my reply was a bit behind!
It is so important to be able to discuss anything you're unsure about with your teacher. I'm sorry there seems a lack of clarity about the structure of the course you're on. Hopefully things are unfolding well...
