Re: Can you really observe thought?
Jon's post, almost perfectly, sums up my approach. I tried the visualisation many years ago when I was learning, but felt I was simply moving from one thought to another ( see thoughts as clouds in the sky). So gave up. After that when I noticed thoughts I came back to the body/ breath or came back ...

Re: Fun & Creative Way to Practice Mindfulness?
For me it would be a distraction. Life is the meditation. There is so much to be aware of, for me the simpler the better. Raindrops running down a window (lots of chances to mindfully observe that!) Grass moving with the breeze , colours, the play of sunlight and shadows. I like to keep it simple an...

Re: stomach burning
I can't add much to Jon's excellent replies. But if you're focused on your work, and keep coming back to it when your mind wanders then you're being mindful of your work / task. Your focus is your work in this instance, you don't need to stop and meditate as you're already 'meditating' on your work....

Re: Free Flow Breath or Controlled Breath?
I use both, mainly because I practice yoga. I feel it's being present and letting go of thoughts as they arise that's more important.

Re: Back to Thinking Mode
I'd suggest sticking with your practice or as has been suggested vary it. Awareness to life is the key. That will only come through practice. Thoughts aren't the problem, how you relate or percieve them is. Life comes in cycles, just like the sun rises and sets, so it rises and sets the next day, it...

Re: It's okay to feel bad
"Suffering is part of life. It is no use running away from it. It will be waiting for you. instead, embrace it, lean into it. With practice, the pain may be eased if you separate it from the suffering. Is that right?" Pain is inevitable , but suffering is optional. Pain can be seen as 'pri...

Re: Where to go after Full Catastrophe Living?
Practice as often as possible. Once you've learnt the basics that's all you need. Mindfulness is experiential, it's not theory. Only Practice will build awareness. Personally I wouldn't skip the yoga. It doesn't have to be yoga , it can be any mindful movement. Pilates, tai chi etc. It helps build a...

Re: None striving
Personally I'd see the goal as future and let it go. I'd stay present and mindfuly clean the windows. Paying full attention to the present and cleaning should bring the clean windows without the striving for a goal and possibly make it more enjoyable. This is a quote from Thich Nach Hahn ,it's a sim...
