My Problem with 'Clarity'

'Clarity' by Jamie Smart has absolutely nothing to do with mindfulness! It is marketed as a 'self-help' book alongside all the others, with a 'brand new' way of thinking (he calls his 'new' system a 'paradigm shift in the Kuhnian sense'). However, let's talk about the content: He says that everybody...

Re: A brand new site is coming.

Just call it "Mindfulness Forum"

Excellent for Google and it is descriptive. No need for a fancy name that doesn't describe what the site actually is

Re: A question about pleasant thoughts

I'm glad to have answers for this too - at least possible answers. Because I wondered the exact same thing! ;)

Are you religious?

Maybe you're a deist, a theist, agnostic, vaguely spiritual, or so on...?

Personally I am an atheist - how about you? :)

Has practising mindfulness made you question any of your previously held convictions about spirituality and religion?

Re: Trying Tai Chi

There are 168 hours in a week. If you go to two, 1 hour, classes, that still leaves 166 hours in which you are doing 'anti-tai chi' - since the body mechanics and skills need to be ingrained fully into everyday living, obviously, you need stuff to be working on at home! Hi, I like your post. Saying...

Re: What actually is Mindfulness?

I LOVE your post pranna! We can hardly stay with a full in-and-out breath without the mind commenting, judging, liking, disliking, singing, wandering, planning, remembering, organizing, clinging, rejecting, fighting and desiring. Interestingly, I thought I was the only one that did this before I sta...

Re: Awareness of 'different' selves

Very philosophical. Yes, who is "I" and am "I" pushing "my" thoughts away from "me"? Incredibly complex and I do know what you mean. Probably best to just focus on the breath again lol! An example of the thought stream might be something like this: One o...

Re: How to Train an Elephant (book)

One day I was standing at a bus stop and suddenly became aware of this noise. I couldn't work out where it was coming from or what it was. This sort of stunned me because it wasn't something I had really experienced before. Slowly I realised it was the sound of hanging branches in the graveyard nex...

Re: Sitting with Intense Emotions

For me the most important thing is... Notice the tendency to push feelings away. Notice your desire to detach from them and pretend they're not there. And allow yourself to be okay with that; to accept it. And if you find it hard to accept it, notice that, too, and have sympathy with yourself about ...

Re: First timer!

Do this each and every time and NEVER criticise yourself. That's the damaging part. ...and when you do criticize yourself, be kind to yourself about it and notice that you became aware of it before returning to the present moment :D Just at every moment, returning to the present, returning to sympa...
