Need to get back on track

Hi everyone, Since starting a daily mindfulness practice and joining this forum at the beginning of this year, a lot has changed. My father passed away suddenly in April and I had to fly back home and deal with both the emotional and logistical aspects of it. While I believe I was helped by having p...

Re: Mindful Parenting: The Most Important Thing

I am currently reading JKZ's "Mindful Parenting" book. It is quite good and full of stories and guidelines for each step of the parenting experience - from pregnancy to adult children.

Re: FPIAFW - Week 5: Turning Towards Difficulties

Working through Week Five this week, and as many of the people on this thread, I am finding it challenging to deal with difficulties portion of the meditation. I guess the challenging part is not the difficulties - as they are the ones who brought me to meditation in the first place - but the bodily...

Re: FPIAFW - Week 4: Moving Beyond The Rumour Mill

I have struggled with the notion of observing thoughts this week as well. I might be finally getting around to it, in that I am still somewhat focused on breathing but let my mind "go" a bit. When a thought arises, I gently try to identify it as such as not go any further. Than I associate...

Re: FPIAFW - Week 3: The Mouse In The Maze

Thanks Jon - I guess I found the first two meditations to be relaxing but have to remind myself that's not the goal here or with mindfulness in general. As someone else said earlier, all this stretching makes me feel self conscious about my body and makes me start ruminating about exercising (or lac...

Re: FPIAFW - Week 3: The Mouse In The Maze

I am finding it hard to find peace in the stretching meditation for some reason. The one that follows is much easier to get into, although I do get uncomfortable sitting with back straight, without support. i have been trying to embrace the back pain and not let the thoughts lead me down the path of...

Re: New here, hi! Struggling with obsessive thoughts

I have this same issue, although my thoughts and anxiety are focused on health of those close to me. There's a workbook that can be purchased on Amazon about OCD and Mindfulness that I found useful. It helped me realize few things about how to think about thoughts. I'd recommend looking into it.

Nature

I find it interesting how nature sometimes forces us to come back to the present. Here in Massachusetts we're going through what we call a "Nor'Easter" storm, so it has been snowing for about two days now. I was out walking my dog tonight and could not help but start noticing the beauty of...

Re: Mindfulness While Working

Thanks Gareth.

I've been at it on and off for about a year. Working through Mark Williams' book now, so I am more focused on mindfulness than I have been in the past.
