Re: calm down or anchor in?

When im feeling anxiety, should i revert to deep breathing or should i simply 'feel' and be with the anxiety in a mindful way? The 2 contradict each other Hi Terry, On the contrary, no they don't!! I still "suffer" from anxiety but breathing is the only way to bring it further to the surf...

Re: What to do with difficult thoughts in daily life?

Thank you, that's helpful. I tend to overthink the approach I think, I feel I need a strategy for everything. I've been experimenting with repeating phrases, so if I have a lot of thoughts I'm getting caught in I repeat 'wind blowing, wind blowing' to remind me that although the thoughts are coming...

Re: difficult life situations

I'm experiencing very challenging behaviour from my partner. He is having an affair. I'm calm and accepting of the emotions I'm experiencing. Part 1: Your partner is having an affair...and if this bothers you (and if they don't know that you know) then they must be addressed asap! Part 2: The accep...

Re: Why is it that people stop meditating?

It's a question that fascinates me. I've come across people who have tasted the benefits that mindfulness offers, yet their practice drops away. I honestly don't understand it. I think that as informal practice improves, the need for formal practice probably lessens for some people, but I can't ima...

Re: Practice Causes too much Pain to Continue

Hey everybody. I recently purchased Jon Kabat-Zinn' s book 'Full Catastrophe Living' and the accompanying CDs, and I've been making time every night to practice the body scan meditation. I'm having a big problem though. Whenever I do the practice, I find that my body and mind become 'tighter' in re...

JonW wrote:"Dear all, from reading some of the posts and the replies, it seems to me that many are confusing concentration with mindfulness."
I haven't noticed any such posts/replies. Would you care to reference some examples?
Thanks,
Jon

Re: Concentration is NOT Mindfulness

You can be mindful of the breath, or you can be mindful of a mental image or anything else. You can be mindful that your mind is still, and your concentration is strong or you can be mindful of the fact that your concentration is in ribbons and your mbnd is in absolute shambles. It's all mindfulnes...
