Psychoanalysis and meditation

Hello!

Ive just started getting therapy for anxiety/depression and wondered about the combination of the two practices.

Sessions focus on the past and dreams (often upsetting), whilst I'm trying to be in the present when meditating.

Anyone else in a similar situation? Any tips?

Thanks in advance

Re: Can meditation be dangerous?

Thanks Matt.
I'm not sure I'll ever work up to 10hours of meditation in one day. :)

Can meditation be dangerous?

Hi, I've been meditating on and off for a year and I started a daily practice just over three weeks ago. My sessions range from 10-20 mins 2-3 times a day at the moment. The aim is to help me be more present and to manage my depression and anxiety. I'm wondering if any of you experienced practitione...

Re: Depression and Vit D deficiency

monkey and gerard - thank you for your responses. I'm trying very hard to work on self care and kindness. I'm on day 10 of a 30 day meditation pack using Headspace. Nutrition wise - I am on 1x 20,000 IU per week now. I am going to see how it goes in the next month and if I still feel like I need mo...

Depression and Vit D deficiency

Hi everyone, I moved to Germany almost three years ago and every winter/early-mid spring, I got depressed. This pattern of winter depression made me think of SAD, so I finally got a Vit D blood test done this week which showed a deficiency - less than half of what is considered to be within normal r...

Re: Mindfulness & dealing with colleagues

Thanks, Gareth. I know this person needs compassion. I have a feeling that they are deeply unhappy and fearful. But it's not easy for me - I feel like I'm in the firing line because of their "stuff" and instead of letting it slide, I take it personally. I also recognise that some of the tr...

Re: Mindfulness & dealing with colleagues

Thanks for the advice, Peter. I will have to continue with the meditation and bringing awareness to my daily life consistently. I'm not sure I'm up to turning towards the difficulties just yet… "We learn that it isn't our difficulties that make us suffer, but our thoughts about them." I lo...

Mindfulness & dealing with colleagues

Hi everyone, I've been meditating now for the past month - twice-four times daily. I'm doing the meditationSHIFT program and also use Headspace. I originally turned to mindfulness meditation because of moderate levels of anxiety, depression, stress and insomnia. I am happy to say that in general, it...
