Re: Awareness of thinking...
From my limited experience I'd say that the word 'intrusion' you use could be the sticky thing. Rather than see thoughts as intrusive, which is judgmental, view them as...well...nothing really. Whatever, as they say. Easier said than done but I guess with practice this relationship with mental event...

Re: Seeking help
That's a good point about regular practice and is bound to be the case; anxiety isn't depression though, although there's often an overlap. Crucially, I was talking in my original post about anxiety, and not depression. I think Shamash Alidina (spelling!) has a new book which may be a more tailored ...

Re: Seeking help
Hi quirky friend, it sounds as if you are taking things nice and slow with meditation which to me sounds the best plan. Although you are taking things slowly though, for me personally I don't think your particular approach would be the right one, not until I was out of the 'acute' stage. There's a f...

Re: Seeking help
Thanks quirky friend and Kellie. QF that's interesting, and you are so lucky to have found a professional person who can guide you through the fragility of applying mindfulness to your treatment .... and thanks for sharing 'sitting still with feelings' rather than launching down the thinking channel...

Re: Seeking help
Hi again Jon I've read your post properly now and also the links you gave me. I really do understand what you are getting at, and not just because I've read so much about meditation I don't think. Intellectually I understand but also I have been practicing it on and off for years....but the past few...

Re: Seeking help
Thank you both! I agree wholeheartedly with you Jon when you talk about knowing intellectually about mindfulness or any other discipline come to that - you could read every book in the world about it but unless you actually sit and do it for a length of time, you'll never really know it. It's the 'f...

Re: Beginner looking for advice
Hi Aarron, I too experience bouts of depression and anxiety - at times of great stress it can be pretty chronic so I can relate to you with that. I am about to read the same book, so we can compare notes! Although I have been practicing mindfulness for a few years, very very loosely and unstructured...

Re: Seeking help
Hi Jon, Thanks for sharing your story and it's great to communicate with someone who understands anxiety and depression. It's amazing to read about so many people whose lives have been transformed by mindfulness, and it's such a simple practice - simple, but not necessarily easy! There are a few cou...
