Re: Change of circumstances
All the best with your changing circumstances Gareth. I imagine that many people would be envious of more time at home and less time in front of a computer — thought not at the expense of one's health.

Re: CJ's story
The fact that you have never managed to blank your mind (except once) since your first time could be a big lesson. The lesson: Trying to recapture an experience you had once before is usually a recipe for repeated failure. Let go of all that struggle and you may find you start enjoying the experienc...

Re: Hello
Hi aumaum, You say you are "forever wondering if I'm doing it right." I'd like to suggest that you can't really do meditation 'right' (or wrong). That supposes that there is an ideal, or best, or correct way to meditate. But every person is different and every person has different goals an...

Re: Starting to do meditation again but still have troubles with the randomness of thought
There's a saying: "Mindfulness is not about feeling better. It's about getting better at feeling." It's a bit cryptic, but there's wisdom in those words. They suggest that there's a certain cruelty in trying to feel better — because the effort to feel better denies the reality of how you a...

Re: My meditation journal
You're welcome Peter (and Jon). I actually pay a lot of attention when insights pop up in meditation and have no hesitation in doing my best to remember them, even if that means stopping right then and there and making a note. I think insights are important (and they're also very easy to forget). A ...

Re: My meditation journal
Thanks for the invitation to chip in Peter. As with meditation and mindfulness in general, I think it's easy to make a lot of assumptions about what journalling entails — and to bring one's own ideas / misconceptions to the practice. Just to clarify. I don't religiously journal and I don't suggest t...

Re: How to meditate better by thinking more
Thanks Barb.
My intention with most of the articles I write — and much of my teaching in general — is to address those pernicious myths (about meditation and mindfulness) that make many people feel like they can't do it or are bad at it. I appreciate your support in helping to get the message out.
