Mindfulness apps

Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

Which one is considered the best by people who actually know what mindfulness is?

Mindfulness is a buzz word at the moment and many (incl app designers) are assuming it's another word for meditation.

So has anyone on here with a good deal of mindfulness practice/experience actually know of a "proper" mindfulness app for the iphone?

Thanks.

I had a look recently, but couldn't find any good ones.
What are you looking for, in a mindfulness app?
My suggestion would be to find good guided meditations and to download those onto your iPhone as mp3's.
I assume you'll get higher quality content, that way.
I've been practising formal meditation for 15 years.

Not a fan of mindfulness being taken tooo seriously.

I know people that have rated Headspace, but you've got to pay for that.

There's an organisation in Australia called Smiling Mind that I am trying to build connections with. I know they have a free app.

The app called "mindfulness meditation" by mental workout is a good one. It has some good mindfulness instruction and guided meditations anywhere between 3-40 minutes. They are basic mindfulness of breath sitting meditations. It costs $2 in the US.

I'd like a form, and I use that word losely, based around FPIAFW or something by JKZ.

There are 3 x mindful apps (3 separate series) based on JKZ teachings but I'm not sure how much input he has had and there are no reviews.

I got halfway through week 5 of FPIAFW before christmas but stopped over the festivities and want to start it again even though since that time I have tried to be mindful when I remember.

I embark on a high intensity CBT course today which involves a lot of work outside the meetings and I don't think I'll have enough time to properly dedicate to FPIAFW if I start it again from scratch.

Headspace: Bought this last year and it is good even though, again (this seems to be a running story in my life), I didn't complete it. Mindulness is a part of the programme but it doesn't explain, essentially, what mindfulness is actually is anything like FPIAFW.

I just want to keep my hand in until I finish this cbt course when I can go back to it and give it the time it deserves.

The following are links to a couple of apps that look "OK" - anyone have any experience of them? Also, what do you think about the 3 x JKZ ones on the last link?

Hi James.
I have a good collection of guided mediations in MP3 form, including those by Mark Williams and JKZ. I could post those in dropbox if you were interested…
Cheers, Jon

Being about as technically minded as a drunk pygmy , Jon, would I just download them to my itunes from dropbox and then upload them to my ipod?

Also, in addition to the above app links, I guess if I just listened to the CD that came with FPIAFW I wouldn't get the full benefit as I wouldn't be reading/carrying out exercises in the book until my CBT course is over?

Apologies for bumping this thread. It's just that I am missing the formal practices.

Jon, will you able to do do that dropbox thang for me?

Absolutely no rush. Just wanted to know if you were still up for it.

Hi James.
Trying to locate the files at the moment. I think they might be on an external drive I lent to a friend, so waiting to get that back…Watch this space.
All best, Jon
