Hello everyone! I first came across Everyday Mindfulness through Twitter. I liked the website, and the content, and then Gareth sent me a tweet asking me to join and introduce myself - so here I am...

I'm a little bit shy and find things like this quite hard but I'm going to do it anyway. That's one of the reasons that I write my blog (mindfulyogamum.blogspot.co.uk) and tweet (@mindfulyogamum) anonymously - so that I can be myself. So that I can be open and honest.

So, a little bit about me and how I came to mindfulness...
I'm the other side of 50, married (my husband works away from home a lot) with two daughters, 22 and 19. I am what is, these days, called a 'homemaker' (housewife is fine by me!). I first started doing yoga about 30 years ago and also did a course in TM which began my meditating journey. It's been more off than on over the years but this year I went to Rishikesh in India and there I discovered Mindfulness.

At the end of August I did an 8 week MBSR (mindfulness based stress relief run by people trained by Jon Kabbat-Zinn) course in London and it really has changed my life. I hope to do another one next year.

I have always suffered from being a frantic, hectic person and mindfulness has grounded me and levelled me out. I meditate every day, not only formally but I try to do it informally too - in the shower, washing up, talking - maybe that's 'just' being mindful! It takes commitment and practise but it's definitely worth it.

I'm looking forward to finding my way round the site and reading other people's stories.

Mym x

Yes welcome, glad you could make it.

I'll give the Facebook page another little 'advertise' via Twitter soon. I think it's nice for people to get the chance to see slightly different content to to the stuff that I put on Twitter.

We are going to reach 20k followers today. Quite remarkable to say that this account was started from nothing 15 months ago. It is now the top account that you get back when you search for 'mindfulness' on Twitter. I can't see any limits to the rate of growth either.

I hope that your journey into mindfulness is as fantastic as mine has been.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome - I especially needed it today. I think your Facebook is excellent - I'm never going to get on with anything at this rate, there's so much to discover!

Most excellent news. That calls for a wee celebration dram a little later in the day...
