Hi Starbug
Welcome to the wonders of mindfulness and great you've found this forum. Gareth has done a great job in setting it up and running it.
I am one of the authors of MfH (Mindfulness for Health) and am interested to read your comments. Delighted that week one worked for you and it is quite normal for the Breathing Anchor to be a little more difficult. I can understand how pacing isn't so applicable to your situation so I would recommend you simply skip over that stuff but continue with the rest of the course. All the methods are applicable to stress and anxiety as well as pain. I'd be v interested to hear your feedback if you do decide to continue. One of the things about mindfulness is just to 'do it' and not be so concerned with immediate ups and downs. Perhaps you could work your way through our programme and then go on to FPIFW and the elephant book. That way you'll be kept occupied with deepening your mindfulness for months and all the diff books and programmes complement one another.
Hello
I started reading the Mindfulness for Health book and though that I would look online for a forum, as I don't know anyone in 'real life' who is doing mindfulness (not that they've shared with me, anyway!) Left to my own devices, it's too easy to start something with a great burst of enthusiasm and then fizzle out - I've done that too often before and I realised that midnfulness is a slow transformation rather than a quick fix, so I need to be in this for the long haul. So, I googled 'mindfulness forum' and this site came up. And I'm very glad I came: everyone has been so welcoming.
And we're glad you found us

Hi Starbug,
Welcome! I started mindfulness earlier in the year for similar reasons to you by the sounds of it. I found some useful videos by Jon Kabatt Zin on YouTube and read his book. I didn't get round to doing an 8 week course until literally this week, I've started the course in FPIAFW and so far so good! I felt like I needed a bit of a refresh as I was falling off the mindfulness wagon. I wish I had started this sooner.
Good luck, stick at it and give us a shout if you need anything!
