quality of meditation

Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

Last night I got chatting to Suryacitta on Twitter about online teaching of the 8-week course. I suddenly had an upswell of panic that this is something that EM should be pursuing, and if we didn't get started on it immediately then some body else was going to do it - quite ridiculous really. I then sat down to meditate, and I could barely keep my mind on my breath for more than a few seconds; my mind wanted to start writing emails and forum topics about it. I'd be about a paragraph into the email before I realised and came back to my breath.

The thing is, this meditation is just as important as the one where you can hold your attention really well and you go down really deep to the beautiful place. I learned from this meditation that the idea of online courses is a good one that is worth pursuing, just because it was so enticing to my mind, dragging my attention away, which I am usually pretty good at holding these days.

I'm off to write the topic that I was so pointlessly rehearsing in my head last night.
