Haha. I need to learn some new songs. I need to find a decent teacher, actually. I'm eyeing up the Kendo and Kyudo school nearby, however and there's a whole ninja fantasy thing I've got get out of my system . One only lives once it seems.

I'm quite new to mindfulness and hadn't experimented much with using music yet. However, just this past week I've meditated using some of my favourite classical music (I'm a classical singer) and I found it really interesting. In this case it was Strauss' "Four Last Songs". I never thought I could meditate to vocal music, not least highly romantic vocal music as it is too emotionally highly 'charged' for me (if I'm listening to another singer I will invariably think about singing, my own voice, analysis after analysis!). This time I found myself really truly listening to the inner orchestral parts, little lines I'm sure I'd never really focused on before. It was liberating. I was aware of the minute spaces between notes, the movement of inner parts against each other. All I can say is, I never thought I would be able to do such a thing and after having gone through a rough patch a few months ago which I won't bore you all with, I think I can credit my mindfulness journey with being able to really, really LISTEN to music again with an open mind and an open heart. I also highly recommend the Bach cello suites. Love, a classical music geek.

The Jessye Norman version of Four Songs? That's one of my favourite recordings. Haven't tried meditating to it though. I'll give it a try.
