Right, we need to formulate some guidelines to keep us safe as a community.

My thoughts so far:

Be Mindful

Please be respectful of all other community members. This doesn't mean you can't disagree with someones point of view but being open minded and respectful gives everyone the opportunity to express themselves and feel valued.

As it stands we do not have anyone on the board acting in a medical capacity, either physically or mentally. If you are in distress please contact an appropriate professional as we can not be held responsible for any advice given.

Moderators with experience in Mindfulness teaching will include their experience in their signatures. Everyone is invited to share their opinions but qualified mindfulness teachers may have a wider field of knowledge and expertise to draw on.

So that is what I have quantified so far. For me Bill & Ted had it right when they decreed we should be excellent to each other. It is a good place to start. :D
“Being mindful means that we take in the present moment as it is rather than as we would like it to be.”

I think less is more in relation to this: short clear guidelines that would give us reason to remove posts that might be offensive.

It reminds me of a tweet that I wrote ages ago that went something like:

It only takes a moment to realise that your comments might hurt another. Mindfulness can give you that moment.

Given the nature of this forum, I'm hoping we won't have too much problem with negative postings. I know that for me personally, mindfulness has prevented me from saying so many things that really wouldn't have been good things to say.

what gareth says,
i wouldn't expect many people to visit this site who haven't experienced or are experiencing some of lifes problems.
we really don't need offensive or hurtful posts, accidental or otherwise.

Yes I totally agree that less is more and also that (as I have already seen in action) disagreements can be mindfully and respectfully resolved.

Are we thinking we basically have it covered then and just need to refine the wording slightly. I am trying to avoid an abrupt tone but sometimes find I tie myself in knots doing so! :)

How about:
It only takes a moment to realise that your comments might hurt another. Mindfulness can give you that moment.

Community members can not take the place of trained medical experts or counsellors.

All experiences are valid, valued and welcome.

.How very true that is! Only takes a moment to say something without thinking and the harm is done. I agree that the phrase is appropriate and am sure everyone will agree.
