Impact of Caffeine on Mindfulness

Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

Thanks Jon. Ironically I did not sleep very well last night at all, but it was nothing to do with caffeine. More to do with the fact I knew I had to be up and out at 6.30am. I tried a 30-minute body scan at about 10.30pm (which definitely cleared up some anxiety building within, even though I was quite restless during it and found myself wanting it to end) as well as some relaxing ambient meditation music afterwards to "unawaken" me, but all to no avail. Best thing to do was stop fighting the insomnia, get out of bed, live with the insomnia as it presented, and do something enjoyable (reading and TV watching) during the small hours. Tonight I will take a Zopiclon to reduce the chances of a repeat - I would like to be alert for tomorrow's mindfulness class!

Coffee might help to concentrate in the short term but it affects mindfulness in the long run. I personally get overexcited and aroused when drinking coffee on regularly basis...
