Hi All, just a quickie. Question for experienced and beginners alike I suppose. Anyone ever successfully used urge surfing practices for helping with giving up smoking, going on diets etc. Have put a bit of weight on these last few years due to what seems like every medication under the sun for various things. Have lost a fair bit but have started a diet (well more of a kind of eliminating snacks than a diet) and have tried the urge surfing practice today. Early days for me but anyone have experience ?
Cheers. Dave.

I had not heard of urge surfing before but after a quick Google it all makes sense now. Sounds very much like what Krishnamurti would advocate and similar to the principle of rebirthing or 'conscious connected breathing'. If you find urge surfing it isn't being as effective as you hoped then I would recommend combining it with rebirthing: my experience is that it is like mindfulness of difficulties and their related physical sensation and manifestations but on steroids!

A good 12 minute urge surfing meditation:

Thanks for the info Stephen, will check it all out. I'm currently trying the 16/8 intermittent fasting regime (well 14/10 at the mo), and I`m finding the urge surfing a valuable tool to hold off eating till lunch time. It also eats up some time until I can tuck in !!
Would recommend to anyone trying to lose weight, stop smoking etc to give it a go.
Cheers Dave.
