Mindfulness and Letting go
Hello! In very recent times it became ever so clear for me that I'm trying to employ control over certain areas of my life, and I'm not able to let go really. I really would be interested in reading a book where the art of letting go is connected with mindfulness, so to read about how mindfulness can contribute to let go more one's fears, anxieties and control mechanisms. Does anyone have some suggestions of books? Or, in general, personal experience with that matter?

In a sense, all Pema Chodron's books are about letting go and letting be. I'd recommend starting with When Things Fall Apart. But they're all magnificent.

I'm a little bit wary of the expression "letting go." Letting go is not always possible. I much prefer "letting be."

Yep, it is a better word for it, Gareth, as far as feelings are concerned. I think I expressed myself a bit unclear, I mean with "letting go" to let go the effort to try to control your life or to let go the illusion that you are able to control your life. Of course, we do can make choices and control something, but often enough our control is limited and we desperately try to fight against that. What do you think about it?

Hello there,
The book that made all the difference for me with situations such as that (this time around) was Eric Harisson's Teach yourself to meditate. I think this was because a) I was ready to really commit and it was right for me at this point in my life b) the book is very accessible and not at all overwhelming and Eric has a host of really great 'spot' meditations that can be done throughout the day, along with a formal practice.
I hope you find a book that really fits well with you and a teacher/teaching style that you can connect with. I soon lose interest with lengthy passages, that is why the above book really hit home.

There's very little difference between a MBSR course and a MBCT course.
You should be fine.
