"Most of them have a much more even spread of user expertise and a lot of discussion going on."
That kind of balance is not something we'd discourage. The intention has never been to create a teacher-student divide on here.
At the last count we have 1298 members but a very small fraction of those post with any regularity on the forum.
If someone comes on here looking for help and that help is gladly offered, then I can see that a certain dynamic is created. Sometimes that person sticks around on the forum and the possibility of wider discussion arises. However, if someone comes here for advice and then disappears into the fog as soon as they've received it, there's not much the Everyday Mindfulness team can do about that. By the way, I don't have any problem with someone using the forum in that way. In fact, it's one of the essential functions of the forum and I'm perfectly happy being a part of that.
In addition to the chat function, we used to have a "lounge" section here on the forum which was meant to encourage a more chatty vibe but it didn't really accomplish that. I recall threads about books, music etc. that were roundly ignored.
The "aura" of the forum is created by everyone who uses it, from the regular poster to the person who sticks around for one thread to the administrative team. It's not the venue that makes the party, it's the people.
Any ideas for achieving a more even spread of user expertise and discussion would be most welcome. So do fire away.
Cheers,
Jon

thanks Peter and of course all of you guys are great too. Just done formal mediation whilst soaking up sun, it was an opportunity to feel the sensations that heat brings on skin. I'm calm, content and warm.

We've got hailstones the size of cat's heads here in Hove.

To be fair, Happy, it would be a lot scarier if they WERE cat's heads.

I'm strictly a one forum guy these days, although I admit to having used other forums in the past. *blushes*
I'd love to get Mick back using the forum ((piedwagtail91). I always felt like he gave a lot to the place. Why don't you try him with a PM, Jon?
