About to commence an 8 week course

Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

Hi all
I am about to commence an 8 week course of Mindfullness and wondered if anyone had any concerns about any long term psychological effects for the practioner (me) or how practising mindfulness could negatively affect relationships with loved ones?

I've heard of people that absolutely didn't like themselves when they were confronted with themselves because of mindfulness. Mostly they, then quit. While they should have continued. The key thing is to hang in there.. Forever, really.. It is an ongoing work that is never finished. You and your relationships will benefit from it.. Unless you're talking about it too much, and people become irritated ;)

Goodluck with your 8 week course!

Mindfulness has only improved my relationships with my loved ones. Inattention kills empathy after all.

Good words there from Peter. Hang on in there...forever.

Hi willm,
Welcome to the forum.
Occasionally the course can throw up challenges for people but a good teacher will help a practitioner with those.
If you need any further support or have any questions, just holler. We're here to help whenever we can.
All best wishes,
Jon

My husband pleads with me to never stop with mindfulness. He thinks I'm a changed person, much calmer and more Zen within myself.
I doubt my family and friends notice, I don't mention it but I see a difference in my behavior with them.

That's great to hear. Mischa. Does your husband also practice?

My husband is very lucky and fortunate, and therefor I because I live with him, that his nature is very calm, stable and Zen.
He learns a lot through me and we listen to a youtube meditation every night in bed and it calms him even more.
He helps me a lot in my search and therefor it helps him too.
