Yes, to me, Yoga and mindfulness are two sides of the same coin. One is awareness of my mind, the other is awareness of my body. And because the mind and body are so closely linked, the two practices overlap enormously.

my mentor is a yoga teacher so it's always been that way for me.
with another teacher at my weekly class i still practice mindfully.
the others in class are there for other reasons, some to keep fit, some for meditation and i think some just for the brew afterwards
it can be all things to all people, my mentor said that to me when i started, she said you can take yoga as deep as you want to , from basic exercise though to mindful movement and meditation.

be careful of following any stretching from youtube. a friend showed me a routine last week which was potentially very damaging to her knees.
the idea of 'mindful movement' is to help increase awareness of body sensations , to be able to be with and be more aware intense sensations than in a body scan, this helps in week 5 when you come to difficult emotions and the sensations they bring with them.
any movement can be done mindfuly, but do it carefully. it's not supposed to hurt, but you're supposed to feel it.
hatha yoga with an experienced teacher is pretty safe.
