Meditation Research

Post here if you have been practising for a while, and you are starting to get your head around what this is all about. Also post here if you are a long-term practitioner with something to say about the practice.

Hi,

My name is Josie, I have been meditating for 9 months, and I am currently doing my Psychology MSc Masters dissertation on the topic of Meditation and Working Memory.

I aim to demonstrate that, in line with other research, meditators have improved Working Memory ability (i.e. immediate recall and concentration). This is important because, if proved, it will work to develop care for those suffering from Working Memory related problems (e.g. people who have ADHD), and so also facilitate the general meditation movement and encourage its integration into schools and universities etc.

I am in great need of experienced meditation and/or mindfulness English speaking practitioners to take part in some very short and simple cognitive tests.

The tests take 20-30 minutes in total, are administered by me, and the only thing required is a relatively quiet space at a convenient location in London. I am happy to send further information should anyone be interested.

I was wondering whether anyone here might be suitable and interested to take part at some point over the next 6 weeks at a convenient time and location?

If you do think that you might be able to take part in my research, or know of anyone else, I would be really grateful to hear from you, but understand if not.

Many thanks in advance and look forward to hearing back from you in due course

Warmest regards,

Josie

I'm afraid I can't take part or assist you but I just wanted to wish you good luck with your research and dissertation. It would be interesting to hear about your findings.

If I lived in London I'd be interested in doing it. But I live in Hove.
Wishing you the best of luck with your project,
Jon

Best of luck in your research, Josie! After I read "The Woman Who Can't Forget" by Jill Price I became fascinated with memory. After developing a steady meditation practice I began doing a focused practice on memories, both during and outside of meditation. What I found was I could recall more detail, and they would link to other memories I had previously "forgotten". However, since I hadn't tried this practice before meditation, I can't really speak to whether the ability was enhanced by that, or the focus would have worked either way.

I wish I could participate in your study but I'm in the U.S.!
