Thanks for all your kind words. Believe me, you are all an inspiration to me as much as I might be to you.

Luckily these last few days have been a lot more settled for me. The future will be what it will be. More often than not, it's better to let thoughts about it pass. I've started having much fewer thoughts about the future, and I feel more at peace.

This really is a lifetime's practice. I didn't really doubt that before; I certainly don't now.

Hi Gareth,

I think its only normal that you will worry about the uncertainty of your new job and the future. I am sure that sticking to mindfulness will get you through it and just take each day at a time. I think you are inspirational and really wish the best for you, you can get through this, focus on now, your two wee boys and just be in the present.

Just a thought...have you tried positive affirmations?

The negative thoughts can be inverted with consistent practice of this...

And the healthier the mind, the healthier the body...

Here we are, a year on from me making this post originally; I'm posting a reply to highlight this topic again. It is an effective demonstration how we should take the future that our mind creates with a huge pinch of salt.

I've been in this job for a year, and things haven't been nearly as bad as my mind wanted to show me. Recently, there has been a bit of a change-round at work, and it's looking like I'm going to have a lot more on my plate. But this time round, I remembered how anxious I had felt a year ago and just how wrong my thoughts were. I've been far better equipped this time round to just let go and take the future as it comes, when it comes.

The commitment to regular practice is worth it; I assure you.

Good reminder. It is so challenging to see those anxious thoughts as only thoughts and to get that balance back when they arise. Life long work, I think! Glad to hear you have been able to keep that perspective this time around.
