Basically Ive been using quotes as a way to be mindful instead of doing the practice of meditation.

For example I will use the quote "everything is as it should be" to settle my mind and feel good, or I will "resist nothing" and then I will "let go and if I cant let go I will let go"

Ive got quite good at making these quotes work, ive got some level of reliability with them.

However I have neglected building an awareness muscle through meditation practice.

Did I make a big mistake?

Is building that awareness muscle via meditation practice the only way to do this properly?

Or can you just do it the way ive been doing it and "just get it" without putting the proper level of work into it?

Mindfulness is a meditation-based practice. There's really no substitute for the actual practice.
Quotes are fine as they go, but they will only take you so far.
Mindfulness isn't about understanding concepts. It's experiential.
Practice is key.
All best,
Jon
