I find my mind ALWAYS manages to find a way to mess up whatever teaching technique people give me. It works for a while then I worry it wont work and I make it not work with that negative self talk.

Hi Nameless,

There is the placebo effect. And there is the nacebo effect. If you think it will work, then it will (placebo effect). If you think it won't work, then it won't (nacebo effect). Yes, this might be the trickiness of mind.
It's hard (if not possible) to know what is behind the trickiness of mind. The first time you taste some food, you feel it's so delicious. But after eating that food for a while, you've continually lost its taste, even its delicious is still the same. There's the truth behind this. It's about you, not about that food. That being said, still, everyone is unique. Each one has to find his/her delicious food.
So does mindfulness. If you have found some technique that works, you should stick with it for little bit longer before giving it up. A watched pot never boils (in the sense that it will be slow to boil or never will if you always lift its lid to look the result inside). Trial and error (learning experience) is a key. Believe me, if you found the right mindfulness that suits you, you will never give it up even everyone tells you to do so.
