Softening

Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

Hi
In guided meditations, you are often asked to ''soften'' around any tension that is felt in the body. I have trouble with really understanding this statement. I get this it has to do with releasing tension and I can do it with ''normal'' tension, let's say in the shoulders or neck. But if I feel tension deep in my belly or something like a tight hard spot in my back, I am not sure how to proceed. I don't seem to be able to let go, soften, or release in the same manner as my shoulders or neck. Any tricks of the trade.

My advice in general is to change what you want and can, and to accept what you cannot change. I think it's applicable here too. Good luck!

I also have trouble with this word. I wouldn't worry so much. It has not stop me developing a solid mindfulness practice.
