It's probably not mindful to boast, but . . .

Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

My 14 year old daughter just started high school and she is taking Latin as her language class. Latin at this school is only offered "zero period" which means an hour before regular school begins. I made a commitment to take her to school every day--that's HUGE for me because I'm not a morning person at all.

I recommitted to doing my MBSR Hatha yoga every day before taking her to school. That means that I am getting up at 5:45 a.m. in order to have time to complete the yoga before I have to drive her to school. When the weather turns frosty, I'll have to move this back 15 more minutes to have time to defrost the car which is parked outside.

If you knew me, you'd know how big this is for me to make this commitment (and my daughter, who is also a night owl, is getting up on her own and getting ready to go on time every morning without prompting. I'm so proud of her). I once said that there is no such thing as 5 a.m. because I've never seen it. So I'm really proud of us both!

One week in and with consistently doing the yoga my body is feeling pretty good, and I'm calmer than I ever expected to be during a highly stressful work situation.

Great stuff Janknitz. 5.45am is the hour of heroes in my book.

Bit of an early bird myself these days.

Two boys under the age of six probably has something to do with it.
