Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

Ezzo,

In not saying that YOU should do this but what works for me is 15 minutes mindfulness meditation every morning - you'll naturally find that you're more aware of your senses during the day so in effect you're doing loads more 'mindfulness' than just your 15 minutes in the morning.

Put your faith in mindfulness but as you say, if you find the deep breathing helps you cope then definitely keep that up too!

Just to clarify - I DO think that doing a course with someone who knows what they're doing is a really, really good idea.

I know from my own experience though that - if you use the analogy of a house being built too show what 'state' your practice is in, the finished house is analogous to a good, solid practice (although it'll never really be finished) - a course will get the house built (lay the foundations, put the walls up, do the roof, put the windows in - the structural stuff). But plastering the walls, decorating & laying carpets finishes it off, I got this 'finishing off' from loads of places like chatting with other mindfulness 'students', asking my other half 'what do you think all that's about then', reading books, watching YouTube videos etc. etc. etc…....

Don't just rely on a course alone, use us to help your practice (but you are best of doing a proper course too).

Ken
