Introduction

Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

Hi all,
I am just starting the 8 week Mindfulness program. I was introduced to the power of thought when doing a course of CBT to deal with substance abuse.
Now,the more I become aware on my self talk, and thoughts, the better I feel, and the more control I have.
I am really enjoying the informal style of sessions. I have tried meditation in the past but always drifted away from it. I used to force myself to empty my mind, and would have very negative self talk if I didn't manage it.
Now I just let the thoughts come - and go!
It really does feel like an awakening. I am gradually becoming more and more aware of what I am thinking at any one time, and the amount of times that those thoughts are negative or unhelpful is scary.I didn't realise I was so hard on myself!
It feels a bit uncomfortable at the moment but using a kind internal voice, and saying nice things to myself is really helping. I am managing to modify those thoughts into something more positive.

Looking forward to sharing on this forum.
Nick

Hey Nick welcome to the community!

It sounds like you have a lot going on and mindfulness will hopefully be a practice that can give you some headspace. I look forward to getting to know you :)

Many thanks for the welcome Feehutch.
I am going to try and login at least once a day.
I am finding it really helpful to write a bit about my experiences.
