Hello there. I'm Jon. New to this forum. Joined tonight.
Very much liking what I see here.
As a newcomer to mindfulness (I started meditating in early December), it's great to find a mindfulness forum where people can swap ideas and inspire each other.
I look forward to communicating with you all in the weeks and months ahead.
All good things, JonW, Hove, UK

Hi Jon,
I just replied to your post on another thread but didn't want to leave your post here all alone!

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the message, I appreciate it. Its good to hear that the practice is helping you, that's encouraging for me, I hope I can achieve something similar. Right now I am struggling pretty badly, the last six months have been extremely difficult, I lost my dad to lung cancer and my wife's family have just had their world torn apart. I don't feel it's appropriate to divulge details here, I'll just say it's been harrowing and I'd say a lot of people's worst nightmare, especially if you have kids. Most days I just feel numb and I am due to start seeing someone for therapy regarding these matters next week. I'm hoping that mindfulness can assist me in dealing with some of these issues, right now, I need all the help I can get.
Thanks again Jon

Hi DeltaHotel,
I'm sorry to hear you're having such a tough time of it.
As I might have mentioned elsewhere on the forum, I was having an extremely tough time in December, coping with a lot of life-changing events all at once. I realised I was slipping once again into a serious state of depression.
Anti-depressants and counselling have never worked for me and I felt afraid, scared I wouldn't be able to cope with the tidal waves of grief I was feeling.
Then a friend mentioned mindfulness to me. And it's working. There are still days when I feel low and I don't necessarily feel in the mood for meditating. Sometimes the initial part of the meditation is challenging for me. But I stick with it and work through the difficulties. By the end of the meditation I always feel so much better. I then endeavour to bring mindfulness to the rest of my day.
I hope it brings you the sense of peace that you need and deserve right now.

Hi DeltaHotel
Life can be rough at times. I hope you find mindfulness helps you - you will see from these forums that its has helped many people in many situations.
When things get really tough, its also good to ensure you take care of yourself as only then can you be of help to others - it isn't being selfish, its just common sense (just as the airlines advise you to fit our own oxygen mask before assisting anyone else, even your nearest and dearest). You will be in a better position to help others if you enable yourself to cope better with everything. Keep practising.
all the best
