Mindfulness for dementia patients

Post here if you are just starting out with your mindfulness practice. Mindfulness is a really difficult concept to get your head around at first, and it might be that you would benefit from some help from others.

Hello,
Let me briefly introduce myself: my name is Sophie and I work as a voluntary assistant psychologist for a dementia & frailty service in the United Kingdom. Fortnightly, our service offers a mindfulness training for staff that takes half an hour, is facilitated by several colleagues from different professions. This is a huge success!

Together with two other assistant psychologists I am trying to set up a small Mindfulness program on top of our regular cognitive stimulation therapy group. I have done a little research and there's loads of articles on the effects of mindfulness on the carers (e.g. spouses, family members, friends), but not the patients.
We won't have much time or space for this, we're thinking two sessions of 30 minutes each, as it's a trial.
Aside from mindful breathing and mindful colouring, we haven't really been struck by inspiration as to what to do, how to explain mindfulness in simple (yet not childish!) terms and how to 'sell' it to our patients as such.

If anyone has any suggestions how to go about this, I would be thrilled to take anything on board!

Thanks,
Sophie

Hello Sophie, I just saw your post inquiring about mindfulness for dementia patients so I hope that you receive this reply. My book of mindfulness exercises for people with dementia will be released soon after completing a 4 month pilot project involving a 12-week group and one-on-one family home visits to test mindfulness exercises for people with moderate stage dementia.
Hope to get connected to provide you with more details,
Eleanor

Sorry, Sophie. I've only just noticed your post too. I'll give it some promotion from Twitter.

My favourite has always been mindful listening. Plenty of exercises you do around this.
