Quotes I Love

I thought I'd start a new thread for our new inspiration place for inspirational quotes. :D These aren't attributed as mindfulness quotes, they are from a couple of my favourite films, but I think they have a lot of mindfulness about them and they both resonate a lot with me.

You don't choose a life.... You live one

Daniel in The Way (2010)

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Ferris Bueller in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

Song lyrics can be quite fertile ground too so I will undoubtedly be posting youtube links here before too long...

Here are the quotes and sentences from the other threads like this:

"If you are irritated by every rub, how will you be polished?" - Rumi (1207-1273), Persian poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic.

"Never try cleaning your windows with a hard-boiled egg." - Jon's grandmother

Learn from the past. Plan for the future. Live in the present.

"you don't have to like it, you just have to do it" - JKZ(?)

"Practice as if your life depended on it, as in many ways it surely does." - Jon Kabat-Zinn.

"Breathe, and let be." (Jon Kabat-Zinn)

mindfulness attends to what's happening right now, as opposed to trying to understand what happened back then.

No matter how many clouds, the blue sky is always there

arrive at today without yesterday in tow

Every moment is an opportunity to let go

Ask yourself if this problem would be real if you weren't thinking about it

Thoughts aren't facts and they aren't true. Thoughts are just thoughts.

You don't have to believe your judgements. A day spent judging another or yourself is a painful day.

See things as they are, the only constant is change.

mindfulness isn't difficult. What's difficult is remembering to be mindful.

Sometimes the best answer is silence.

“I've lived through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.” - Mark Twain.

"The view is from HERE." - Jon

'For something to die, you first have to let it live'.

'You can't calm the waves, but you can learn to surf'.

"Start from where you are" - Jon

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." - Dr. Seuss.

"The greater the difficulty, the more the glory in surmounting it". - Epicurus.

"Eat, drink and be merry. For tomorrow we snuff it." - (Sid James)

"Feast on your life" - Derek Walcott.

"The neutral and luminous background of our consciousness provides us with the space we need to observe mental events rather than being at their mercy." — Matthieu Ricard, Happiness: A Guide to Learning Life's Most Important Skill

"doing it right is accepting doing it wrong"

"Just this."

Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift; that's why the call it the present

"Lighten the load and be fluid and free".

"In mindfulness there is no conflict"

"...the practice of meditation should be the practice of embracing and transforming, not of fighting." - Thich Nhat Hanh

"Expect nothing. Just deal with what actually happens." - Gareth

When I have some time and $25 free, I'll compile all our fav quotes and make them into an Everyday Mindfulness Android App. Let's keep them coming in the meantime :ugeek:

I love that idea Bio :D
On the Headspace app I get 'buzzers' through the day with thoughts similar to these and I find it more helpful and less intrusive than a mindfulness bell.

One of my own definitions of Mindfulness is ... "Mindfulness helps us to see what life really is .... very short!"

It kinda gets the point across about realising how groundless are so many of the things we humans get steamed about, and it also reminds us to get real and get on with living our very short lives :D

I like that first one ...
Makes me a little sad for different reasons, but also reminds me that living is easier than suffering, although a tough lesson for me at times.

I'm referring to the "you don't choose a life, you live one" quote.
