Hello,

My name is Jemma and I am an MSc Health Psychology student at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle. I am interested in examining the effects that mindfulness practice can have on psychological health, overall wellbeing, management of physiological symptoms, emotional reactivity and behavioural regulations.
I am currently doing a research project that explores the effects that mindfulness practice can have on improving a variety of different long term health conditions. I am interested in looking at a range of health conditions, including (but not limited to):
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Mental Illnesses
• Cancer
• Eating disorders
• Chronic pain
• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
• Chronic Stress

Other Requirements:
• Aged between 18-65
• Be able to speak and understand English
• You will need to practice mindfulness on a regular basis
• Have a diagnosed health condition

What do you have to do?
1/ Sign an informed consent form saying you agree to take part in the research.
2/ Participate in a 15-20 minute interview with me through Skype. I will record the interview and transcribe it. All identifiable information will be removed and replaced with pseudonyms. Audio recordings will be destroyed once the transcripts are produced. At the end of the study, the transcripts will be analysed for common themes and a report will be produced. Personal information will never be associated with the recordings, transcripts or report and all data will be stored and used in adherence to UK data protection laws.

I am extremely keen to speak to you about your experiences and I hope to hear from you soon. If you would like further information or would like to take part in my research, then please feel free to email me at jemma.louise1@outlook.com.

Look forward to hearing from you

Jemma

Hi Jemma,

I did links to your topic via Twitter. I hope it will get you some participants for your research.

How long do you envisage a Skype chat taking? I don't have a great deal of free time. In any case, I'm not sure that I meet the criteria that you have specified.

Thank you so much for doing that. I have received a couple of emails from people willing to participate.

The Skype chats can take anywhere from 8 minutes onwards. The criteria is quite broad in regards to health conditions, they don't have to be as serious as those included in the criteria. For example it could be things like everyday stress or anger or anything that has affected you, that you find mindfulness has helped you deal with or change.

I am so grateful for you guys helping. It is much appreciated.

Thank you
