Hi there dear mindful people,
I'm a Scot who has lived and worked in Pamplona, north Spain, for the past thirty years. Yes, that's where the Bulls run in the streets in July, yes, the weather's defininitely better than in the UK, yes, the food and bar life is good and yes, the people are friendly. But yes, they're loud, by God are they loud !
If you ever thought it was hard to be mindful in Britain, just try it in one of the noisiest countries in Europe, where it is perfectly normal for people to speak at the same time and changes of subject and interruptions are the order of the day.
Well, you know what ? It's wonderful grist for the mill. Nothing keeps you more mindful ! Because not only do you find yourself seeking and enjoying the split seconds between topics and interventions on all sides, but also you are bombarded with your own thoughts, mainly judgements about how un-mindful and inconsiderate others are...but it's just the way they are ! And so we accept those thoughts, and ourselves, and those wonderful Spanish people, and carry on. After all, we can't change them, which would be like trying to carpet the whole world, but we can, however, wear sandals instead of treading in bare feet. The difference is within us, and that's the crux.
And so, as they say on the Camino de Santiago here, buen camino, or may you all find your way. Whether it takes more or less time to find it, it is within us all.
Kind regards,
Nick

Thanks for your post, Nick.

This reminds me how mindfulness is an ongoing process. One that is never finished!
