So be it

Hi to everyone here!

I'm Ugi from Switzerland and I'm 23 years old. Since like three years I tried different self-help techniques to alter myself, to be the person I want to be. Thankfully I don't have any severe conditions to deal with. But I struggle with certain conditionings and certain attachments (especially to finally having a relationship and to be approved by people in general). I tried stuff like EFT or the Sedona Method/Release Technique but I didn't change. It only was last year when I discovered that the problem was my resistance to what is and my huge want to get out of my current situation. This attachment made it worse over the years.

Then I found a course called "Just allow it" by GP Walsh which was basically a mindfulness course. Altough I did this course, I still was resisting my life as it was. So I knew mentally that allowing everything to be as it is, is the key for letting go of my attachment, but I wasn't able to get to a place of allowing. Because of that and because I'm a science oriented guy, I stumbled across Mindfulness Meditation. I was so glad that there was such an incredibly huge evidence of the benefits of mindfulness/allowing that I immediately got myself the 8 week course book by Mark Williams and started doing it. That was two months ago. I didn't follow the course through as recommended in the book but I did meditate daily with additional Meditations by Jon Kabat-Zinn or Tara Brach.

Meditation is fantastic and the benefits of a growing mindfulness are great. Still, there's a lot to practice and learn. So thats the reason why I registered here. But I can say already that starting meditation seems to me the best thing that could have happened in my life :)

Thanks for reading!

Hello Ugi. Welcome to the community.
It's great to hear that mindfulness is making such a positive difference to your life. There are plenty of people here on the forum who would agree with you that starting meditation is one of the best things that's ever happened to them, including myself.
Have you considered signing up to a group course with a "live" teacher? I found such a course enormously beneficial during my early days of meditation. It gave me an excellent grounding in mindfulness and complemented the book course wonderfully well. Are such courses widely available where you live in Switzerland?
Do stick around and please feel free to ask any questions that pop up.
All best wishes,
Jon

Yorkshire is still in the majority around these parts but the Welsh and the Swiss are catching up. Though not when it comes to football, sadly.
