Re: Get some headspace

I'm on day 15 of Take 20. I've got the book, but it doesn't really follow the different programs within the website; it's more of an introdcution to mindfulness, with lots of subtle 'adverts' built in, to encourage the reader to susbscribe. I'm finding it very helpful so far. At first, I didn't thin...

Introductory Course

Next weekend, I'm going on a three-day residential mindfulness course. The course was arranged by my trade union, but will be delivered by an external provider. I was asked to privide a phone number, so that the tutors could ring me, to ensure that I was suitable for the course. One of them rang me ...

Re: Single-Tasking

I tried to do some mindful breathing this morning at the dentist, which wasn't easy as I needed a fairly deep filling replaced - the words 'nervous patient' are written along the top of my dental records! Although I wasn't expecting any miracles, the slow, steady breathing did seem to help. There we...

Re: Why daily practice is important

Westmoquette, thank you for your very helpful and thought-provoking post. It's so true - if I come to a formal mindfulness practice with resistance or anger, it soon melts away. I practice every day because I'm very new to this and I have a lot to learn. Plus, I'm already seeing benefits from it. I ...

Single-Tasking

I've been practising mindfulness for over a month now, using recorded meditations from Finding Peace in a Frantic World and other books. Over this time, I've noticed a gradual change. I used to multitask all the time, trying to do two or even three things at once ( and usually doing them badly). Sin...

Re: How to Train an Elephant (book)

So far this week, I've kept forgetting to focus on my tongue. I did it this evening and found that something I usually like to eat actually doesn't taste of anything much, so that was interesting and strange - why have I kept eating something so bland? I must have thought it tasted good at some poin...

Re: How to Train an Elephant (book)

Hmm, posting late about procrastination... :) I found last week quite hard, as this felt like such a vague thing to focus on. I tend to procrastinate about a lot of things, especially if they seem unpleasant, but when I actually do the tasks, they aren't always as bad as I thought they would be. Ant...

Re: How to Train an Elephant (book)

I don't like being late, as I think it's rude. However, not everyone at my workplace thinks the same way! I was early for one meeting and used the time to look through the novels in our book swap corner. I think ths week has shown me how much time is wasted in our office through lateness and how fru...

Re: Are you religious?

I appear to be the only Christian here. :o :D I have been a Christian for over 20 years. Strangely enough, my conversion was considered a rebellion by my family, although I never intended it rhat way. I've struggled and even drifted away from the church at times, but somehow I've always come back to...

Re: How to Train an Elephant (book)

At first, I found this week's topic quite depressing. I sat in a lot of meetings, looking at my colleagues' wrinkles and grey hairs! I kept thinking of a line from the hymn Abide With Me - 'Change and decay in all around I see'. Then, one day I was driving to work and listening to a singer- songwrit...
