Re: More judgmental during formal or informal practise?
Sounds like you are on the right track Lucid. A phrase that springs to mind is "Invest in failure". Each time you notice something is 'not quite right' is a chance to change it. Each time you change something which is 'not quite right' into something that is 'a little better' is another st...

Re: Just had a very powerful loving kindness meditation
But, more and more, I accept them without thinking of them as positive or negative. That way, less narrative builds up around them and, as a result, there's far less suffering. It feels very liberating. Maybe Bils was alluding to much the same thing. Yes Jon. My use of the word 'pleasure' is slight...

Re: MBSR vs Traditional Buddhism
I've only just come across this thread and I must say it was most interesting. I myself have clung onto many beliefs for many reasons over the years, and certainly still do. Some of the practice that I was doing at the time are helpful too me now even though my belief about them has changed. I've dr...

Re: Just had a very powerful loving kindness meditation
When first learning about mindful meditation, I was immediately turned off by the loving kindness meditation. It seemed a bit hokey and fake to me. However, the more I read about it the more it started to resonate with me, and I figured I would at least give it a try. As you can tell by my previous...

Re: Where to next with my transformative mindfulness practic
What a great thread, thanks Nick for staring it off. Bio, I like your take on the psychic thing, it is so easy to get distracted by fantasy - I know I've been there too. The human brain is programmed to look for connections and when wierd stuff comes up it is inevitable that we try and make sense of...

Re: Stopping Automatic Negative Thoughts
Automatic thinking, particularly of the negative variety, has received a lot of attention in the field of neuropsychology (both clinical and research-based). Stopping these thoughts is a major aim of a number of therapeutic approaches, the most effective of which, I would argue, is mindfulness. The...

Re: Grieving a loss
I'd like to share some things I have learned about grieving; The emotion needs to be 'felt'. However clinging to the emotion just feeds it which is not healthy. Conversely blocking the emotion just stores it up in the body which is not healthy either. The emotion needs to be experienced without acti...

Re: Hi all
Gareth asked me how mindfulness helps me specifically; I am currently recovering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and mindfulness meditation practice has been instrumental in this. Being a sciency type I'm going to write a list of how I think Mindfullness practice has helped me (I tried just writ...
