Re: Why is it that people stop meditating?

But I didn't claim that I removed myself from the neuroses of being a human being, only that I don't meditate to fix myself. Jon No I know, it was just friendly banter to "Why wait until it starts raining before you attend to the leaks in your roof?" I'm sorry if it read as an attempt to ...

Re: Why is it that people stop meditating?

I often meet people who resort to meditation when they're having a tough time and then allow the practice to lapse when they're feeling perkier. Why wait until it starts raining before you attend to the leaks in your roof? I'm with jdandre. I see meditation as a way of being, not something I use to...

Re: How does meditation/mindfulness relate to humor?

Humor is about connecting disparate things to make unexpected results, and a calm mind is naturally more adept at this. It's not surprising that a more mindful person will make connections in conversation or daily life that another person will miss. I think when you're laughing at a thought you have...

Re: A lost practice

Thanks for the advice and support guys. After posting the topic, I actually shut my laptop and did a four hour session to try and kick myself back into gear, then came back to this thread to see opposing advice, ha! But what you guys said makes sense. I've just had a tough time accepting that I have...

A lost practice

I'm in a bad place with my practice these days. I started a job about six months ago, and prior to that I was in a job search for about two months. During the job search I had lots of time to meditate and was averaging about four hours of meditation a day. It transformed my mind in the most amazing ...

Re: Stuck

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that you meditate more. More minutes! Your mind may just be going through the motions of your twenty minute routine.

Re: Basic Meditation/Walking Meditation

Walking meditations were very difficult for me until I thought to try something that ended up working really well--focus solely on one object you are walking towards until you pass it. Then pick another object and do the same thing. It's an amazing feeling of uncovering unnoticed beauty and makes it...

Re: Mindful Magazine

I signed up to receive the charter edition and did eventually receive my paper copy. I enjoyed reading through it and would recommend it. The focus is less on the practice of mindfulness and more on its community and how individuals and organizations are using it to bring change.

Re: Mini or maxi?

In my experience so far, the analogy I would use is this: formal meditation practice is the rocket that gets your mind out of the woods and into the sky, while informal practice is the parachute that can keep you in the sky for longer. So formal practice is a must for mindfulness, while informal I s...

Re: Slight concerns about still getting lost in thinking

I think that any thoughts you're having while trying to be mindful, even if they have to do with mindfulness and its practice, should be recognized as thoughts that should be disregarded (gently of course, as I'm sure you know, dismissing thoughts should never be forceful or contentious), and to bri...
