Checklist

This morning I realized I didn't have a properly defined (mental) checklist about meditation. A lot of important things in my life have checklists to help me remind myself of important things. My checklist for meditation would go like : 1) Make sure I have the right posture . This means finding the ...

Re: Accepting thoughts non judgementally.

Exactly, being aware and not controlling. That's the principle behind all of this. I'll try to put that in practice a bit more myself too ;-)

Thanks for the reply.

Re: Accepting thoughts non judgementally.

A little anecdote from my own experience : I've been meditating on and off for the past 15 years or so, and for the past (six?) months my mind has been particularly agitated when I meditate - to the point where I sometimes consider giving up. My life has (otherwise) not been exceptionally stressful ...

"Meditation is the fastest growing wellness activity in the US"

Thought I would share this to everyone here. I know those "Calm" and "Headspace" might not be the best way to mindfulness, but I still find this information refreshing in an era of - hmm hmm - agitation, let's say it like that. https://qz.com/quartzy/1465459/meditation-is-the-fas...

Re: I am and at the same time I am not

Hi, I remembering reading all sorts of things can happen while meditating. I sometimes have nausea which forces me to open my eyes. From what I remember, the things I read simply said to observe, that eventually this shall pass, too. Sorry I can't help any further, I'll let the other more advanced p...

Re: Struggling with non-judgement and 'just thoughts'

I think you might be over-thinking the your thought process a bit. Meditation is not about judging your thoughts, it's about recognizing you are not your thoughts, and that those are simply another thing you can experience - much in the same way you can experience emotion or sensory information. It'...

Re: Struggling with non-judgement and 'just thoughts'

Those are indeed wise words. Like "a rose is a rose" doesn't mean to devalue the rose but using a rose as a bucket is still a bad idea. That was a really funny example, but I couldn't agree more. You can't prevent thinking some things, or more generally thinking at all, as Jens said! Indee...

Re: Just saying "Hi!"

Maybe this isn't specifically related to mindfulness (although in my mind, it still kind of is) but I sometimes think about what having no "goal in life" as you say would mean. For me, the "jail" that I set myself in involves continuing to study, getting a PhD, doing research, et...

Re: Just saying "Hi!"

I like that analogy about viewing life as a game or music! :-)

Re: Mindfulness

Hi, I'm no expert but I'd say there are plentiful moments in your day where you can return to the breath. Of course, if you're, say, driving in traffic and something happens and you have to react quickly I wouldn't suggest ignoring that while concentrating to your breath. But the moment right after ...
