I think if you want to avoid judging yourself it's worth ditching terms like 'success' or 'mistake'. There is no such thing as a mistake, simply an action whose consequences didnt turn out as you'd hoped. That unforseen outcome doesnt mean the original action or the decision to do it were wrong.
