I like to compare mindfullness practice to physical exercise. If you're unfit and start to take a regular walk you will start to feel better within a few days - when your legs stop aching! I think if you want to avoid judging yourself it's worth ditching terms like 'success' or 'mistake'. There is no such thing as a mistake, simply an action whose consequences didnt turn out as you'd hoped. That unforseen outcome doesnt mean the original action or the decision to do it were wrong.
