Re: anxiety setback and on week 3 of mindfulness programme

Hello Margaret Welcome to the forum. Anxiety is hard and I suffer from it, though very few people see me as anxious. I hide it well, and when it comes out, it's usually as control and/or anger. I too have meditated on and off, but recently picked up a more serious practice the last two months, and i...

Softening

Hi In guided meditations, you are often asked to ''soften'' around any tension that is felt in the body. I have trouble with really understanding this statement. I get this it has to do with releasing tension and I can do it with ''normal'' tension, let's say in the shoulders or neck. But if I feel ...

Re: Mindfulness and a room with 2 doors

Thank you, Happy Buddha, for the beautiful text. I just finished meditating and came to the computer and the first thing I happened to click on was your post. As it happens, sadness came up a lot in my meditation today. If felt like much constriction around my throat. When I felt into it, there seem...

Re: The body scan

[quote]Last night I went with a guided meditation, not a body scan and all went well, I was very calm, no squirming, no restless legs...nothing. I will try the body scan again tonight to see if there is a difference. Sensi[quote] I tried it again a couple of times and still had all the unpleasant se...

Re: Newbie questions

I don't want to become someone that walks around and looks at objects/people and has absolutely no opinion about anything at all. Likes, dislikes, desires and attachments make up someone's personality. Without them, wouldn't you just become a thoughtless and opinion-less living organism? Hi I used ...

Re: The body scan

Hi sensi, I would never encourage someone to sit with prolonged suffering but maybe this is something you could be with for a minute or two. Simply observe the sensation without naming it, allow it to be, try not to wish it away. See what happens. Cheers, Jon Thanks Jon Last night I went with a gui...

Re: The body scan

Hi All Recently I've started doing the body scan again. I've done it sporadically over the past few years. I usually don't mind it at all and notice that the more I practice the more I can sense my body. Over the past two weeks I've done it every night and enjoyed a sense of relaxation after. Howeve...

Re: TO MANY BODY SENSATION AT ONE TIME

Hi Jon The past two weeks, formally, I've been practicing almost everyday. I've done the body scan before as well in a formal manner, but always found it difficult to sustain because of the issues I mentioned. I would say though that I've been aware of these sensations in my body for a few years usu...

TO MANY BODY SENSATION AT ONE TIME

Hi all Just wondering if this happens and how you manage. Many times when I sit to meditate I immediately become aware of sensations in my body, but I sometimes get overwhelmed with them all. For instance, I can feel tension or knots, in my tummy, in my shoulders, throat all at the same time, and th...
